Pasir Ris Wildlife
Pasir Ris Wildlife

Early in the morning, Ava, Alex and I went out to Pasir Ris park to try to spot some wildlife and capture some photos. It was great to have both kids excited about seeing and photographing animals.
There is a river that leads out to the sea and a few bridges that cross that river and those were the best places to see the animals. We saw a huge number of herons everywhere. They were all gathering sticks and twigs to create their nests. Close to the beach there was a huge heron rookery in which the cacophony of herons building nests high in the trees was a constant background noise.
We also saw some smaller herons and some kingfishers. When we were down by the beach, Ava spotted a juvenile white bellied sea eagle that had caught a fish and seemed to have flown past. But then she saw it in a tree and captured some great photos of it. I only managed to get a couple photos as it flew away.
Finally, as we were almost leaving, we saw 6 or 7 hornbills in the trees. They moved quickly and were always in pairs. We also saw a monkey who climbed up a tree to where a hornbill and a heron were perched and scared them away.
It was a wonderful morning and we celebrated with some cold drinks and pancakes at McDonalds. The kids are excited to go back next week and so am I. We hope we will be able to see otters next week.
