Spartan Race
Spartan Race

I had my reservations about the kids joining the Spartan obstacle race in Singapore. This was the second year that there was a Spartan race and I was worried it would be too much for Alex and overly competitive to the point where it wasn’t fun. I couldn’t have been more wrong.
There were a number of different options for races for the day including a Special Spartans race for Alex. Alex’s race was at noon and it was a 1.6 km obstacle course that started and ended in the National Stadium. There were obstacles that you had to climb over and go under, a heavy jug that hd to be carried up and down stairs, targets to be hit, ropes to be climbed, jump ropes, a tunnel to go through and finally, water to wade through. Ava did the whole course with Alex and they both did really well. In fact, Alex was the second person to finish!
Then we went to Kallang mall to have lunch and get some dry clothes for Alex before coming back for Ava’s race at 3 pm. Ava was competing against 10, 11 and 12 year olds so she was one of the youngest in her group. She had to do the whole course that she had done with Alex again. But this time, she had to do it twice! So it was 3.2 kilometers! All in all, she did the course three times on the day and ran 4.8 kilometers. She was amazing and we are so proud of her.
Earlier in the day, one of the teachers at school named Ian Deeth came second in the competitive race. He was actually leading until he tripped over the last obstacle 6 meters from the finish line and was overtaken. It was great for Alex and Ava to see the positive attitude that he had over such a crushing loss. He was so positive even though he must have been incredibly disappointed. We were happy to get a picture of Alex and Ava with Ian after Alex’s race.
Everyone was exhausted and we were so happy that it was such a positive experience. We all slept really well.
