Alex Admitted to the Hospital

Kelly had been sick all weekend with the flu and I went to a talk by Andrew Hallum on Monday night. Some time after Alex went to bed, Ava walked by his room and noticed that he was having a seizure. She alerted Kelly who gave him medication to stop the seizure and called the ambulance.
I met them at the hospital and Alex was awake but not alert and didn’t respond to our voices. It was incredibly scary and while we looked at him in the emergency room, we felt that he was still having a seizure but the seizure didn’t have any outward signs. The doctors gave Alex more medication and that stopped the seizures.
He was moved to the high dependency ward in the hospital and late that night they took him for a CT scan to check for bleeding on the brain. Thankfully this came back negative. Alex did have a high fever which they started to treat.
In the end, Alex spent 2 night in the hospital - 1 in the high dependency ward and 1 in a single room. He tested positive for Influenza A which caused his high fever and probably caused his seizure. It was incredibly scary to see him awake when he first arrived but unresponsive. We are forever grateful that Ava noticed what was happening to Alex because she may have saved his life as we don’t know what would have happened if the seizure went unnoticed.
